In August 1984 Jenni and her new husband Jonas goes on a belated honeymoon to a hotel called the Riveria as during a trip to visit her parents she went into her room while looking at a book she noticed a postcard. To find some missing clues about her first husband Eric and why he spent majority of their marriage life there on business. Jenny has moments of flashbacks in dreams or just recalling hidden memories from her childhood and married life with Eric. The storyline is full of mystery and deep down buried secrets. A book that is very interesting with emotional stories and secrets which keeps you entertained and guessing on where, why and how these families are linked together in the past, present and future. It’s not a favourite storyline but it’s told in such a way keeps a reader wanting to learn more about the characters and if they will keep in touch to become friends.

Just from the title of the book, it brings to my mind the original Charles Dickens story of A Christmas Story which the author rewrites the story A Firefighter Christmas Carol. Elliot suffering from work overload and stress which some will call burn-out. Elliot not receiving help for his mental health issues begins to see the ghost of his friend Jimmy who took his own life. Jimmy doesn’t want Elliot to go down the same pathway as himself sends three ghosts from Christmas past, future and present to enforce Elliot to view on where he came from and how his actions has caused situations and how his life might end. The following stories Janitor, Death Alarm, CatchTime, Skelwaller and DOA are mostly psychological suspense thrillers and connected to Elliot and others are haunting ghostly visitations.

A firefighter Christmas Carol is recommended for readers who love books about the supernatural and psychologist suspense thrillers.

The storyline based upon army officer Francis Hacker who is loyal and courageous tells what he has faced and done in his time during this war such as upholding his faith, protecting the rights of commoners and ensuring those accountable for their actions. The story also outlines liberation, religious freedoms and tolerances for all people. Definitely a book for historical buffs who love reading about stories regarding the English Civil War. The Historical Fiction is not just for men but also for women young and old who enjoy learning about English history and early Christianity and how they are linked together.
